Water conditioning systems function by altering the chemical composition of hard water to eliminate or reduce unwanted minerals. This is often achieved through a process known as ion exchange, where hard minerals like calcium and magnesium are replaced with softer minerals, such as sodium or potassium. The conditioned water then flows through your plumbing system, reducing mineral buildup and improving the overall quality of your water.
In some cases, magnetic or electronic conditioners are used. These devices create a magnetic field that changes the electromagnetic properties of the calcium carbonate minerals, preventing them from depositing as scale. It's important to note that these methods do not remove the hard minerals; instead, they change their properties to mitigate their negative effects.
Apart from our top-notch water conditioning systems, we provide UV lights and water softeners as well.
Choosing the right type of water conditioner depends on several factors including your home's specific hardness level, size, budgetary constraints, and personal preferences regarding maintenance and environmental impact. For instance, if you have extremely hard water and don't mind regular maintenance tasks like adding salt, a traditional ion exchange softener may be a suitable choice.
If you prefer a more hands-off approach or are concerned about salt waste, a salt-free conditioner might be the better option. Similarly, if your primary concern is removing specific contaminants from drinking water, a reverse osmosis system could be ideal. It's always best to consult with a water treatment professional who can evaluate your needs and recommend the most suitable solution.
The level of maintenance required for your water conditioner depends on the type of system you have installed. Traditional salt-based softeners require regular replenishment of salt, usually once a month depending on usage and hardness levels. They also need periodic cleaning of the resin bed and brine tank to remove any accumulated minerals.
On the other hand, salt-free conditioners or magnetic descalers generally require less maintenance as they don't use a resin bed or brine tank. However, they might still need occasional servicing to ensure optimal performance. Always refer to your system's manual for specific maintenance guidelines or consult with a professional.
Yes, water conditioning can significantly enhance the taste of your tap water. Hard water with high mineral content can often have a distinct, somewhat metallic flavour that many people find unpleasant. By reducing these minerals through conditioning, the flavour of the water becomes much more neutral and palatable.
Furthermore, certain types of conditioners are designed to remove additional contaminants such as chlorine, sediment, and various other particles that may negatively impact taste and smell. As a result, conditioned water often tastes cleaner and fresher than unconditioned hard water. Keep in mind though that individual perceptions of taste vary widely so while most people prefer conditioned over hard water, preferences can differ.
