FAQs

  • Why would I need a sump pump?

A sump pump is an integral part of your home's water management system. Its primary role is to prevent flooding and water damage in your basement by collecting and disposing of excess water from around your home or building's foundation. This becomes particularly important in areas with high rainfall or for homes located in low-lying areas where groundwater levels can rise and seep into the basement.

Basement flooding damages your property and can cause mould growth and structural damage to your home or business.

  • How often should my sump pump be serviced?

To avoid a basement flood you should check your sump pump regularly. Common things that contribute to a flood are the pump being mistakenly unplugged, the float not being free of the side of the pit, and the pump being plugged at the bottom.

These simple checks can protect you from an unexpected flood.

Generally, sump pumps do not need routine servicing. However, this may vary depending on factors such as the age of the unit, how often it operates, and whether it has shown any signs of malfunctioning in the past.

If you live or work in an area prone to flooding or if your basement has experienced flooding issues you may wish to investigate having a second sump pit and pump installed and or a battery backup system to protect your basement during backouts.

  • What signs indicate that my sump pump needs to be repaired or replaced?

Identifying potential issues with your sump pump early on can save you from dealing with significant damage later. If you notice that your sump pump isn't turning on when it should or runs continuously even when there's no water present, these could be indicators that repair is needed.

On another note, unusual noises coming from the unit such as grinding or gurgling sounds can suggest mechanical problems within the system. Furthermore, visible rust formation or evidence of motor failure are severe issues that may warrant a complete replacement. A professional evaluation can determine the best course of action in such cases.

  • Can I install a sump pump by myself?

While it might be tempting to undertake a sump pump installation as a DIY project, it's generally advised against. Sump pump installation involves intricate processes including digging, correctly positioning the pump, and setting up an effective drainage system. These tasks require specific skills and knowledge for proper execution.

Moreover, incorrectly installed sump pumps can lead to ineffective water management and potential flooding. Therefore, to ensure optimal performance and longevity of your sump pump, it's best to engage professional services. Trained technicians can handle the job accurately and efficiently, providing you with peace of mind knowing your home is protected from potential water damage.
