FAQs

  • What are the signs that my sewage pump needs repair?

Identifying signs of a sewage pump in need of repair is critical to maintaining the functionality of your waste management system. One common indicator is an unusual or loud noise coming from the unit, which may suggest mechanical issues. Another sign could be frequent clogs or back-ups, indicating that the pump might not be effectively moving waste as it should.

Additionally, if you notice unpleasant odours around your home or business, this could mean that your sewage pump isn't working correctly and waste isn't being adequately disposed of. If any of these signs are present, it's advisable to seek professional help immediately to avoid further complications.

  • How often should I schedule maintenance for my sewage pump?

The frequency of scheduling maintenance for your sewage pump largely depends on its usage and the manufacturer’s recommendations. Generally speaking, it's wise to have a routine check-up at least once every five years. This ensures that all components are functioning correctly and increases the lifespan of your pump.

In addition, during heavy usage periods or after severe weather conditions such as floods, it may be beneficial to schedule additional inspections. Regular maintenance helps identify potential problems early and can save you from costly repairs or replacements in the future.

  • Is it possible to install a sewage pump in an older home or a business?

Yes, installing a sewage pump in an older home or a business is entirely possible and often necessary when modernizing plumbing systems. The installation process involves assessing your home’s or business' layout and plumbing configuration to determine the best location for the pump. It's important to note that proper installation requires skilled professionals due to the complexity of integrating a new system into an existing one.

Moreover, while older properties might present unique challenges due to their construction or original plumbing design, these hurdles can typically be overcome with careful planning and expert execution. The result will be a more efficient waste disposal system compatible with modern living standards.

  • What is the lifespan of a typical residential sewage pump?

The lifespan of a residential sewage pump varies based on several factors including usage frequency, maintenance routine, and overall quality of the unit. On average though, you can expect a well-maintained sewage pump to last between 5 to 15 years.

However, the key to maximizing this lifespan is to avoid flushing items down toilets that can harm the pump. these items include baby and makeup wipes (even though they say flushable), menstrual products, cue-tips and paper towels.

It's also important to avoid pouring grease, oil, or paint down sink drains.
